Traveling on...

I finished the advanced copy of Lisa Winegate's " The Prayer Box" today so now it is time to package it up and send it to the next reader. I consider a good book a friend, so I have to admit, I'm just a little bit sad to let it go.  I'm use to keeping my books on a shelf where I can see them and revisit when I want.
But it has a new adventure and this book is so delightful I could never keep it to myself.
Here is the synopsis printed on the back

And here is the note I wrote within the pages (gasp)! I know writing in a book felt very wrong, but she told us to!
This was Such a great experience and unique opportunity for someone who loves to read and adores this author! This book comes out in September. Please watch for it, I don't think you will be disappointed!

Look what came in the mail!

Today I received an ADVANCED copy of my favorite author, Lisa Winegate's latest book "The Prayer Box"! I did a jig all the way up the sidewalk, in my haste tripped over the dog getting through the door, then broke two nails opening the package...I'm excited as if I won the lottery (ummm okay maybe not the lottery)!
How did I manage to get an advanced copy? To my surprise I was chosen to participate in a promotional event called The Sisterhood of the Traveling Book.

There are four of us in my circle. I read the book, make comments in the margins, then send it on to the next "sister". I'm like a kid in the candy store!
I can't wait to start reading. The story is set in one of my favorite places, the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I am suppose to take a picture of where I read the book. They are giving a surprise to the one with the most interesting, fun, etc places....give me some ideas please!
I've waiting long enough, so I'm off to read "The Prayer Box" by Lisa Winegate! I'll keep you informed!!

YEAR END AWARDS

Well it's that time again, time for the third annual year end awards. Just like the Oscar, Grammy and  all the other silly award shows, I pick my favorite books that I have read this past year. The pickings are slim this year. Not because there was a shortage of good books, I just didn't read much this last year. Crazy I know!! But I was able to pick a few so here goes:

Favorite Gotta Read:

The Shoemaker's Wife

Best Sequel
"The Hunger Games" Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

Best Book adapted to a Movie
"The Help" by Kathryn Stockett

Biggest Surprise
"The Homecoming of Samuel Lake" by Jenny Wingfield

Biggest Let Down
"The Casual Vacancy" by J.K. Rowling
(Guess I had too high of expectations from the author of Harry Potter)

Best Holiday Read
"Christmas On Ladybug Farm" by Donna Ball
(If your a fan of the Ladybug Farm series, then you will love this novella)

That's it...another year "in the Books!" (pardon the pun)
For the New Year, I resolve to read more books in 2013 and stay away from the mindless television, and for you...

"May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you"
